Job Summary:
The Bioinformatics Specialist will play a critical role in supporting and advancing veterinary research initiatives by applying bioinformatics techniques and computational analysis to large-scale biological datasets. Working closely with the research team, the specialist will contribute to the development and implementation of computational strategies, tools, and pipelines to extract meaningful insights from diverse veterinary genomic, proteomic, and transcriptomic data. The specialist will be responsible for data analysis, algorithm development, data integration, and visualization, ensuring high-quality and timely results.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with the research team to design and implement bioinformatics analysis plans for veterinary research projects.
2. Develop and optimize computational pipelines for processing and analyzing large-scale veterinary genomic, proteomic, and transcriptomic datasets.
3. Utilize statistical and machine learning techniques to identify patterns, correlations, and associations within veterinary biological data.
4. Apply data mining and visualization techniques to interpret and present complex biological information effectively.
5. Contribute to the development and maintenance of bioinformatics databases and resources relevant to veterinary research.
6. Stay updated with the latest bioinformatics tools, algorithms, and methodologies, and propose their integration into research projects.
7. Assist in the preparation of scientific reports, publications, and grant proposals related to veterinary bioinformatics research.
8. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide bioinformatics expertise and support for veterinary research projects.
9. Ensure compliance with applicable data protection, ethical, and regulatory guidelines governing veterinary research.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, veterinary science, or a related field. Master's or Ph.D. preferred.
2. Proven experience (X years) in bioinformatics analysis and computational biology within the field of veterinary medicine.
3. Strong proficiency in programming languages commonly used in bioinformatics, such as Python, R, Perl, or Java.
4. In-depth knowledge of statistical analysis methods and machine learning techniques for analyzing biological data.
5. Proficiency in utilizing bioinformatics software, tools, and databases relevant to veterinary research.
6. Solid understanding of molecular biology, genomics, proteomics, and transcriptomics, with the ability to translate biological concepts into computational approaches.
7. Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing computational pipelines for processing and analyzing large-scale biological datasets.
8. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a detail-oriented approach to data analysis.
9. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams and present complex information clearly.
10. Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced research environment.
